The Steelers face Moscow Lads, Swansea University Old Boys, and Rugby League outfit BARLA Bulldogs in the group stages on the first two days of competition.
Formed in 2004 by Scottish Rugby legend Andy Nicol and Colin Bone, the Bone Steelers regularly compete at the Dubai Rugby Sevens
From 2004 until 2006 The Bone Steelers played in the International Invitation tournament and made an outstanding debut at the 2004 Dubai 7s reaching the plate final and only losing to the New Zealand Legends in an entertaining match played in front of a 30,000 capacity crowd. In 2005 the team went one step better and lifted the International Invitation plate by beating Russian side MGUS.
Gregor Townsend added: “I’m really excited about representing the Bone Steelers at this year’s Dubai Sevens. The opportunity to play with some of my former team-mates in what is one of the best Sevens events in the world was too good to turn down."
Duncan Hodge is another one excited about the side’s desert adventure.
“I have toured with Scotland many times but the opportunity to go and play at the Dubai Rugby Sevens with the Bone Steelers is a fantastic opportunity. I can’t wait to team up with some of the guys I played with at international level like Stuart [Reid] and Derrick [Lee] and play my part in what I hope will be a successful tournament.”
This year the side will be raising money for Lance Armstrong's Livestrong Foundation and have the backing of Scottish racing driver Allan McNish, who has agreed to become their official ambassador.
McNish, the former F1 driver and Le Mans winner said: "It is an honour to become an Ambassador of the Bone Steelers. I used to watch these guys play and it will be fascinating to see how they get on in the Dubai event."
The Scottish based side have attracted sponsorship from OKI Printing Solutions, Bone Steel, Eden Park, Hogmaneigh.com and Henderson International Group.
